How to Make Money As An Affiliate – What Do Your Readers Want?

The easiest way to make money as an affiliate is to give your readers/audience/colleagues what they want. Since we’re talking about products that help people create websites, what do you think people want those products to do for them? What experience are they looking for?

One place to start is with what frustrates them about creating websites. Remember, what frustrates you may not be the same thing as what frustrates your customers. You may have far more skill, so things that come as second nature to you are completely foreign to others.

Are there some general solutions virtually anyone setting up a website would want?

Sure.

  • They want to be able to set up a website easily – getting it to do the things they need it to do and look the way they want it to look.
  • They want to be able to set it up quickly with the least amount of fuss.
  • They generally might want to do it without having to deal with a lot of code changes. (This will certainly vary from audience to audience.)
  • They want it to look professional “out of the box”.

If I were trying to let people know about iThemes Builder, I would focus on ways to highlight those 4 points (at least for starters) — ways to show people that Builder takes away all the fear and frustration that gets in the way of being able to set up professional looking websites quickly, easily, and without having to know anything about code.

Here is an example of a video, from the iThemes YouTube page, that does just that. You can share this video on your site using VidEmbed and it will do all the explaining for you. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a well-crafted video must be worth about a million.

Creating Child Themes with iThemes Builder

Hopefully you’re already telling people about iThemes Builder – it’s a pretty amazing theme, and with a new feature being released later this week, it will be even more powerful. Basically, using iThemes Builder will be a no-brainer for anyone wanting to be in the web design business.

And with the 9 plugins that come fully integrated with the theme it’s also a no-brainer for non-developers, too.

This Thursday, Feb. 3 at 11am central time, Chris Jean and Matt Danner, developers, and Brad Ulrich, designer, will teach people how to build their OWN child themes to work with Builder.

While this may be over the heads of basic users, if your audience has web developers, or even just intellectually curious people in it, this would be a primo class to share with them. If they don’t already have Builder, by the end of the class they will surely want it.

BackupBuddy Webinar Rescheduled

Unfortunately, our webinar on January 19th was apparently taken over by some annoying auto-tune robots. Thankfully, Benjamin made it out safe.

The webinar is rescheduled for Friday, January 28 at 1 p.m. (CST)

How to Promote iThemes Builder Using Builder Child Themes

There are many ways to promote our star theme – Builder – whether it’s during the Builder Birthday Blowout Sale or not.
(Remember, though, the birthday sale expires on New Year’s Eve at midnight – when the ball drops, so does the sale!)

For your readers who are more visual, it can be powerful to use the child themes as a promotional tool. Some WordPress users aren’t into the whole “behind the scenes” story – they just want to see what the theme can do and how flexible it is.

By sharing links to the Child Theme demos, you can give them exactly that.
You could share a showcase of the themes, or write a blog post about each theme and what features you think are the most valuable to your readers. You can even do a “compare and contrast” type of post. For example, you can write a post about Foundation Tropic and Foundation Blank, extolling on the virtues of each and what makes them similar and different.

We’ve added the most popular child themes to your iThemes/PluginBuddy affiliate account.
The links for them are located near the bottom of the text links, and start with the phrase “Builder Child Theme – X”.

For example, to share an affiliate link to the demo for the Builder Child Theme – Foundation Tropic, you will see:

Remember, to access your affiliate links for iThemes and PluginBuddy, log in to your iThemes membership account. Click on the link for “Affiliates Area” in the right column under Useful Links. From there, select “Get affiliate banners and links”, and you’re on your way. The list of links is long, so you will have to scroll through them to find what you are looking for.

If you know exactly what you are looking for, you can use the “find” feature on your computer.
On a PC, click Ctrl+F and type in the word you are looking for. On a Mac, use Apple + F.
